In a significant development within the global tomato trade, Morocco has overtaken Spain in export value for the first time in 2024. This shift underscores Morocco’s growing influence in the international agricultural market, particularly in the tomato sector.

According to data from the United Nations COMTRADE database, the total value of global tomato exports in 2024 reached €11.58 billion. Despite a slight decrease in volume from the peak of 8.66 million tonnes in 2021 to 8.18 million tonnes in 2024, the export value achieved a record high.
Leading Exporters by Volume:
Mexico: Maintained its position as the top exporter with 2.06 million tonnes, representing 25.24% of the global market.
Netherlands: Exported 916,110 tonnes, accounting for 11.21% of the global total.
Morocco: Exported 903,090 tonnes, making up 11.05% of global exports.
Spain: Exported 637,990 tonnes, constituting 7.8% of the global market.

Mexico: Led with an export value of €3.28 billion.
